More Than a Game: Sports in the Japanese American Community accompanied the opening exhibit for the Japanese American National Museum. A compendium of essays and photos which captured the diversity of Japanese American sports and its evolution in the United States.
From sumo to baseball, judo to wrestling, weight lifting to ice skating, this compilation edited by exhibit curator Brian Niiya was designed by Mimio to blend human stories with the social and political history. Though the careers of many athletes were abruptly halted by the incarceration of more than 120,000 Japanese Americans during WWII, sport persevered and remained an essential part of the Japanese American spirit.
The catalog accompanied the opening exhibit for the Japanese American National Museum.
